History and the Need:
Our Founders, Dr. Henry J. L. Marriott and Jonni Cooper, with the assistance of
a team of Medical, Nursing, and Technical professionals, developed standards of
practice for 12-lead electrocardiography for anyone needing to demonstrate
proficiency at the 12-lead level.
It was particularly developed with the EKG Technician and Cardiac Nurse in mind
whose job it is to take the 12-lead and respond to any abnormalities they see
without delay.
Prior to these developments, there was no national standard with which to
measure the competency of a Cardiac Nurse or a 12-Lead EKG Technician.
Although it is their role to record, read and respond to the EKG, Cardiac
Nurses and EKG Technicians traditionally have not been required to demonstrate
accountability for this high profile role in cardiology.
They are given a tremendous responsibility for filtering all abnormal
EKGs to physicians and therefore must be as proficient as possible in order to
be effective. This exam should set
any employer at ease and help guide them with future program development for
their Cardiac Nurses and 12-Lead EKG Technicians.

1. Advanced EKG Physician Panel
Reader’s Exam
